Projectors vs. Big Screen TVs

Today's top deal of the day on Justdeals.com is the Viewsonic PJD5123 DLP Projector with over 2700 Lumens that is 3D ready to go! The amazing price is going for just $199.99 on Justdeals when it normally retails for around $700 MSRP. At that price, it is way cheaper to buy a projector than purchasing any Big Screen TV at your local Wal-Mart or Target. Especially when considering 3D capabilities. But what are the advantages of a big screen tv versus having a projector in your living room? Obviously we know projectors do great in school and business settings but what about for your home theater?

Personally I have a projector in my home. I've owned one ever since I could afford to buy one. My uncle fixes them, and I remember when I was younger going over and playing my gaming systems on the BIG SCREEN! It is a completely magical experience. So when I was old enough to afford my own, well I guess you can imagine what my preference is. Granted Televisions have their advantages and I do still own one in the bedroom, but when it comes to my movie watching, game playing, entertaining guests experience I go for the projector all the way. So let me share my experiences with you on why I feel this way!

SPACE: First, the projector is compact, small, and can be either hung from a wall, ceiling, or placed on a table out of the way from people. It does not mess with the fung shway you had intended. No huge wall space is necessarily needed, nor cabinets or tv stands. This way the center of attention is not your tv when guests come over, its you! That is if you want the attention. Otherwise by all means clutter up your living room space with a 52 inch Big screen.

CONVENIENCE: Another great reason is the pull up screen! You can use a blank wall or white sheets to project on, but that's tacky and defeats the purpose. For cheap you can buy a pull down screen that will hang from your wall or ceiling. I bought mine no Ebay for cheap. It even has a remote. If that won't impress your date. I don't know what will. This method saves space and adds to the overall experience.

DAYTIME: A lot of people think that since you have a projector it's only good if you use it in the dark. Maybe in the early years that might have been true, but today many projectors such as the one Justdeals is selling today has a pretty high Lumans count. Anything above a 2,500 setting is more than enough to see in light. I may draw the curtains for the maximum experience but total darkness is absolutely not required. Although, I must say it does set the mood on date night.   Wink Wink.

LIFE: TV's do have a pretty long life, but I have to admit when the switch to HDTV's came about I did not have to rush out and buy another tv or a converter box. The bulbs do need replacing on the projector from time to time and they can be a couple hundred dollars but these bulbs now days last forever. Years. And most projectors even have a ECO Mode which saves extends life even longer! Personally I go on Craigslist and find a good deals.

SOUND: I do have to give Television sets a one up, sound for convenience sake is great. You don't need any external speakers to have a good time. The projector is not an optimal machine for sound. Normally external speakers are required. Some models do sound but more than likely its a mono sound and its very muffled. Some external computer speakers, or maybe even a surround sound would work better. But don't most of us nowadays use that anyway?

PROGRAMS:  I have my computer and cable box hooked up to mine so I can get the best of both worlds, but many just use the computer. If that's the case there are lots of sites such as Icefilms.info, HULU, Netflix etc.. that let you watch what you want to watch. Who needs a Tivo when you have internet TV. More money saved!

So that's my two cents on Televisions Vs. Projectors. I'm sure I missed some things so I'll leave that up to you to mention and comment about below! Does anybody else have any great memories using projectors? Or does anyone share a different opinion? I'd love to hear it!
